Born Milan 1926 Died Canberra 2019

Our world’s museums conserve some of the most wonderful and intriguing objects you will ever encounter, from the beautiful to the bizarre. While the objects may be interesting to look at, what really makes them special is their history, the story behind them.

It was great to have Gordon Ramsay, Minister for the Arts and Cultural Events, and Sally Burford, Acting Dean University of Canberra Faculty of the Arts and Design visit CMAG recently to view a newly acquired collection of press photographs.

I will be privileged in April, this year, to commence study toward a PhD with the Australian National University School of History. Living on Ngunnawal land as the Director of Canberra Museum and Gallery it will be no surprise that my topic concerns Canberra’s identity. It seems an appropriate time to share a few thoughts about what I plan to do.

Veronica Wensing and Krishna Sadhana have recently gifted their wedding outfits to the CMAG collection. Veronica and Krishna are one of the small number of same sex couples that were married during the few days in early December 2013 when same sex marriage was legal in the ACT.

A new exhibition at Canberra Museum and Gallery from 13 May provides the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of one of the Canberra region’s most celebrated glass artists and teachers.

Soon after starting at CMAG our Director delivered a floortalk on Sidney Nolan's Kelly paintings. As we celebrate the 100th year anniversary of Nolan's birth in 2017 we are taking the opportunity  to make the text of this floortalk available online.
