Friends of the National Film and Sound Archive presents stories that celebrate film and music.
For those who were enmeshed in the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s the consistent themes of peace and protest rang through, from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in the US to Midnight Oil in Australia. This session will provide a brief historical introduction to protest songs and play excerpts from the large catalogue of Songs of Peace and Protest; focussing on the US and Australia. Hugh Watson is a Canberra author and songwriter and founding member of Canberra band Willie and the Correspondents. He is currently co-presenting a course at U3A on ‘Rock Music: The Seminal Years’ with Alex Gosman and David Kilby.
