The sphinx bureau is an installation based on the Stephen Harrison's studio and 40 years of art practice.

'Virtually everything I do, art-wise, starts at my drawing desk. It’s here that ideas begin to take shape and grow metaphysical wings; becoming sculptures or oil paintings, or they remain ink drawings, which is just fine.

This desk, transported from my studio, holds inks, brushes and paper, various sculptures, knick-knacks, special objects, occasionally a cat, along with the patina of ink stains and the visual history of a life of drawing.'

The surrounding works in ink, oil and bronze span from 1984 to 2024, from Canberra to Prague and a lifetime of the creation of art in between.
