This learning program has been designed to complement the Outer Space: Stromlo to the Stars exhibition about the Mount Stromlo Observatory.
With strong links to The Australian Curriculum across History, Science, Geography and Visual Arts, this learning program, celebrating the 100th birthday of the Mount Stromlo Observatory, will give students an insight into the history and scientific achievements of this globally important Canberra institution.
Structured as a chronological narrative and featuring opportunity to use a 19th century telescope and engage with a digital interactive and retro-style game, this exhibition aims to inspire the next generation of local astronomers. Students will enjoy an introduction to astronomy and the work of contemporary astronomers, explore the fascinating objects and stories captured in the exhibition, then be challenged to organise a timeline of events about the Observatory’s history and discuss its future.
