Experience Sidney Nolan's ‘Search for Paradise’
With the Canberra Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble.
This special concert program is inspired by themes from the exhibition, touching on ideas of paradise and loss and focusing on the depictions of the harsh Australian landscape in Nolan’s work. The artist’s own musical preferences and the music of his milieu will also be explored in works that span from well-loved classics to popular music of our own time. The music chosen is inspired by the artworks themselves and informed by the context of the artist’s life.
Among the featured composers are Ravel, Sculthorpe and Britten, with film music from Ennio Morricone and arrangements of the music of popular artists such as U2 completing a diverse and varied program.
Join a pre-concert Curator’s Talk to explore the Sidney Nolan: Search for Paradise exhibition (at 6:50pm).
Doors open at 6:45pm. Pre-concert drinks available for purchase.

The Nolan Collection is an iconic group of paintings from 1945 to 1953 by Sidney Nolan that the artist gifted to the nation in 1974
In August 1978, Sidney Nolan created a series of 31 crayon pastel drawings based on the events of Marcus Clarke’s 1874 convict novel, For the Term of His Natural Life.
Australia’s most famous silent film, lost for decades and painstakingly reconstructed from incomplete versions and NFSA stills.
The Young Nolan Project is a new initiative where an individual school is invited to work on an extended program and present their resulting art to the public
